North Oregon uses an 8-team 2-Division Round Robin Format. Each team will have a 4 game guarantee (3 Preliminary Round Games and at least 1 Championship Round game). The 3-game Preliminary Round is designated for seeding purposes for the Quarter-Final Games of the Championship Round. Each District shall have two team entrants in the Tournament. The Host Team and its District Winner shall be the two teams from that District. In the other three Districts, the teams shall be the District Winner and the District Runner-Up. Prior to any draw, the Host Team shall be placed as Team 4A and the Host Team’s District Winner shall be placed as Team 4N. After these placements, the other drawings and bracketing shall next be performed in the manner then determined. All slots will be filled in order (1N, 2N, 3N and then 1A, 2A, 3A).
Note that these time slots for games 1-4 each day are NOT absolute, and, for good cause showing might be adjusted as deemed necessary (AND with the approval of the State Commissioner or the State Tournament Official in charge of this tournament). For instance, if Team 1N or Team 2N may not be able to arrive until late the night before Day 1, their initial game might be switched in to a later time slot. In addition, rain delays and fairness to all teams participating might also require some game time shifts during the tournament. However, any such switching shall be done with the greatest reluctance and restraint. If any such changes are to be made, the reasons for the change shall be made known to the affected teams and participants.
GAME PAIRINGS ARE NOT TO BE CHANGED: The only exception shall be if a team drops out or is removed from this tournament PRIOR to the start of the tournament. In such case, a substituting team shall be inserted into the exact pairing slot(s) of the team who is being removed from or who has dropped out of this tournament and tournament bracket.
No bracket or tournament time switching shall be done without the approval of the State Commissioner, acting personally or by and through the designated State Official in charge of the tournament.
Championship Round (Seeded) Tournament Bracket (these numbers are the seeded team numbers not the District or Division team numbers. For instance, in the Championship Round, 1N refers to the National Division Preliminary Round Winner and 4N refers to the National Division Preliminary Round 4th place team):
Championship Round Pairings:
Day Four (Quarter-Finals):
Game One Seed #2 (National) v. Seed #3 (American)
Game Two Seed #2 (American) v. Seed #3 (National)
Game Three Seed #1 (American) v. Seed #4 (National)
Game Four Seed #1 (National) v. Seed #4 (American)
Day Five (Semi-Finals and Championship): (Games # 1, 2, 3 and 4 immediately below refer to Championship Round Quarter-Finals games)
Game Five Winner of Game #1 v. Winner of Game #3
Game Six Winner of Game #2 v. Winner of Game #4
Game Seven Loser of Game Five and Loser of Game Six (determines 3rd and 4th place)
Game Eight Winner of Game #5 v. Winner of Game #6 (determines 1st and 2nd place)
In the unlikely event that the normal tournament schedule cannot be completed for some good and sufficient reason (such as weather delays), the Tournament Schedule may be altered. In such an event, the Preliminary Round games shall take priority over the Day Four games and the Championship Round format shall change and only the top two teams in each division shall be seeded into the Day Five Games (a single day Championship Round) as follows:
Day Five (Alternate):
Game One Seed #1 (American) v. Seed #2 (National)
Game Two Seed #1 (National) v. Seed #2 (American)
Game Three Loser of Game One and Loser of Game Two (determines 3rd and 4th place)
Game Four Winner of Game #1 v. Winner of Game #2 (determines 1st and 2nd place)
NOTE: This bracket and schedule contemplate being able to conduct the normal five day tournament or, at worst, an abbreviated four day tournament. If and when that becomes impossible, this schedule and bracket will be further modified and “State Champion Team” selection will be conducted and determined in some other equitable, appropriate and pragmatic manner to be determined at such time as the same might become necessary.
NOTE: For each up-coming game, Home Team will always be determined by a coin flip one hour prior to that up-coming game and the Home Team dug-out will always be the same throughout the tournament (and is traditionally the third base dugout).
Note: The 16-year old State Tournament (if any) and the 16-18 year old State Tournament pairings, when ultimately decided, will be based upon the number of teams that participate in each tournament. Such tournament information will be posted when it becomes available.
